Birth Date May 30, 1931 Birthplace Pototan, Iloilo City Occupation Governor Biographical Text Ligurgo "Curging" Tirador was born on May 30, 1931, in Pototan, Iloilo City, to Federico Roman Tirador Y. Alianza and Dolores Bolivar Peremne. His early education saw him excel academically: he graduated as salutatorian from the University of San Agustin for his primary schooling and earned honors upon completing his secondary education at Ateneo de Cagayan. Continuing his academic journey, he pursued pre-law studies at the University of the Philippines- Iloilo College and earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from Ateneo de Manila University. A distinguished Filipino politician and lawyer, Tirador's career spanned various significant roles. He served as a board director of the Rural Bankers of the Philippines from 1957 to 1959 and later as a consultant to Monetary Board member Mariano Peñaflorida at the Central Bank of the Philippines from 1960 to 1962. His involvement in constitutional affairs included being a delegate to the 1971 Constitutional Convention. In 1986, Tirador assumed the role of Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Governor of the province of Iloilo, serving until 1987. He then represented the third district of Iloilo in the House of Representatives from June 30, 1987, to June 30, 1998. Following this, he was elected municipal mayor of Pototan, Iloilo, and served for three years starting in 1998. His commitment to public service continued with a term as board member of the third district of Iloilo from 2004 to 2007, and subsequently, he served as Presidential Assistant-I of the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines from 2008 to 2010. He was reelected as board member of the third district of Iloilo in 2010. Beyond his political career, Tirador actively participated in various organizations, including the Pototan Lion Clubs, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and the Aquila Legis in Ateneo. Throughout his life, Ligurgo "Curging" Tirador has left a lasting legacy in Philippine politics and public service, marked by his dedication, leadership, and contributions to his community and country.
