The Igbarasnon: Volume 1: Legend, history, literature
This book contains varied facets on the story of Igbaras, my hometown. With the numerous incidents related, the Igbarasnon is the central character in a setting comprised of nature's beauty. The scene opens with a legendary backdrop, in a pre-Hispanic era when Aetas and Malays lived peacefully. The roles of Marikudo, Sumakwel, Diro-an, Tamo-ok, and others are in the popular folklore of the town. Different oral versions of their existence and adventures are gathered and modified in this volume.
Like other towns all over the Philippine Islands, Igbaras evolved from the hardships and consequences of foreign rule and invasion, during the Spanish regime up to the American occupation and World War II.
Today, Igbaras is progressing in every aspect. This phase is given only a brief glance in this book, but to see the beautiful panorama of Igbaras today, the Igbarasnon is always ready to welcome everyone.

Iloilo, the most noble city: History and development 1566-1898
The book gives a wealth of historical data on Iloilo City on 1566 to 1898, and situates it in the context of the history of elegiac Panay as well as that of revolutionary Philippines. Notably, the book mentions the story of the Ilongo volunteers fighting against the Katipunan (hence Queen Maria Cristina of Spain calling it La Muy Noble Ciudad), growth of the sugarcane and textile industries, and the emergence of Graciano Lopez Jaena and the Propaganda Movement.
Iloilo, the Most Noble City by Rev. Fr. Policarpo F. Hernandez, ObA is a well-written and excellent piece of scholarly historical research.
Professional historians, history students, researchers and enthusiasts will profit much from reading it. While the basic frame of interest is the valuable contributions of the Augustinian Order in Iloilo, generally unknown, and therefore, unappreciated, the book will be of much help in the study of Iloilo history. -

Casanave: An American photographer in Iloilo
This coffee table book is most valuable in the study and appreciation of the history of Iloilo, both the province and the city. It presents more than one hundred thirty photographs taken over a period of thirty years by Pedro Andres Casanave, a consummate American photographer. Each photograph is accompanied by commentaries by Nereo Cajilig Lujan, a veteran llonggo journalist who has successfully ventured into historical research and writing. The book also includes an interesting biographical sketch of Casanave by Lujan.
Casanave was an American citizen who was born in Mexico—thus, his Spanish name. Already widely known as a photographer and artist, he joined the US Volunteers in 1899 and came to the Philippines during the Philippine-American War. After the war, he stayed in the country, married a Filipina from Negros, and established his photography studio in Iloilo City in 1905.
Casanave was not the first photographer to practice in Iloilo. The first Filipino professional photographer, Felix Laureano, grew up and started his photographic career in Iloilo. He later went to Barcelona, Spain and put up a studio.
In 1895, Laureano published his Recuerdosde Filipinos in Barcelona. The photo album contains thirty-seven photographs taken of several parts of the Philippines. Less than half of these show scenes from Iloilo. On the other hand, Casanave’s photographs depict the various facets of life and society in Iloilo from the early American period to World War II.
A picture is worth more than a thousand words, so goes the adage. When it comes to historical pictures, however, the learned words of the historian can situate a picture in its proper context and explain its significance.
In this book, Casanave’s pictures and Lujan’s text, contribute to Philippine historiography, especially on Iloilo's past. We commend Nereo Cajilig Lujan for bringing to light Pedro Casanave’s peerless photographs, thereby taking the readers back to Iloilo’s glorious past.

Folk songs: Songs of the Visayas volume I
The songs in this book were chosen from among five hundred songs gathered from the different islands of the Visayas. To get these songs field trips were made to Panay, particularly the Aklan Valley, Samar, Leyte, Cebu, Bohol and Negros. The people who sang them were from cities, towns and remote barrios, none of them professionals but all possessed with a love for singing.

Iloilo City buildings portfolio: Exposure database 2015–2022
This Volume entitled “Iloilo City Buildings Portfolio Exposure Database 2015–2022” contains the recent building stock with building permits within Iloilo City. It provides the approved building permits data from 2015 to 2022 archived at the Office of the Building Official (OBO) covering all seven (7) districts of Iloilo City composed of Arevalo, City Proper, Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, Mandurriao, and Molo.
The database, which is approximately 5% of the existing buildings or structures in Iloilo City, specifies for each building the coded building permit number or OBO Code, the address, the floor area, the number of storeys, the lateral load resisting system, the cost of the structure or market value, and the type of occupancy whether residential, commercial, institutional, educational, industrial, accessory or heritage buildings.
